DISADVANTAGES OF WORKING IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

Smoking -Some countries have not yet banned smoking in public places and those working in bars and restaurants in those places will still have to endure the smoking.

Intoxicated People - Bar and restaurant staff may have to deal with drunken guests. They may be swore at, verbally abused and in extreme cases injured. An example of this is a customer throwing a glass at a bartender because they were sick of waiting.

Rude Customers - In front line customer service position you may have to endure disgruntled and rude customers. Good examples of this are customers demanding a refund due to weather conditions or complaints due to towels missing in the rooms.

Dishonest Guests - Some guests will lie about the number of people in the room, whether they were smoking in a non smoking room and making up lies to get out of cancellation fees.

Guest Deaths - Suicide attempts are common in the hotel industry. Occasionally guests will attempt to jump out of the top floor of the hotel. Housekeepers may also come across guests lying dead in their beds.

Prostitutes - Often night receptionists and night security will see prostitutes entering and leaving a hotel.
