TIPS FOR ADVANCEMENT FOR HOSPITALITY JOBS

• Talk to your line manager. Discuss your position in the hotel and your future potential within the company. Explain your desire for advancement in the future and that you would like more responsibilities within the department. This will show your manager your desire to succeed within the company and for your career in hospitality jobs.

• Find a mentor. Perhaps your manager or the general manager - someone who you strive to be like. Developing a relationship with this person will open doors as the vast majority of hospitality jobs, promotions are influenced by a mentor higher up in the company.
  

• Volunteer for clubs. A lot of hotels will have Social clubs or other clubs similar to this and if you volunteer your services if will prove that you are passionate and dedicated to the company.
  

• Sharpen your people skills. Really practise your customer service skills by being friendly, helpful and personable to your guests. By having an honest interest in your guests you may open windows of opportunity in hospitality jobs.
  

• Sell yourself. If you have won employee of the year or come runner up as chef of the year make sure people know about it especially those in influential positions. Let people know that you are seeking promotion in hospitality jobs.
  

• Keep learning. A proven way to advance in your career in hospitality jobs
  is to be continually acquiring new knowledge. Stay on top of trends or developments in your field by purchasing hospitality magazines and journals and by attended hospitality related conferences. You could also volunteer yourself for courses. For example Cocktail Courses, Fine wine courses.
  

• Build your reputation within the company. As your reputation in the hotel is the most valuable thing you own use it to your advantage. Try impressing guests, be a reliable and eager team member and be known as a professional and invaluable employee.
  

• Be innovative. Think outside the box and make suggestions on a regular basis. Hotels will often have suggestion boxes so don't be afraid to use them as this will make you look good and can help advance your career quickly in hospitality jobs once your employer realises the potential in you.
  

• Network. The next time you walk past the concierge on your way into walk have a quick chat. Not only could you make a new friend but you could also discover any new opportunities that may arise with the hotel including up and coming hospitality jobs you could consider applying for.
